Best AI homework helper for phone-first students
Disclosure: we make CanvasNinja. We recommend other products when their workflow fits better. We have not independently benchmarked these tools.
What matters for phone-first students
The biggest failure can happen before reasoning starts: a camera reads a minus sign as a dash, clips a condition, or misses a diagram label. Inspect the recognized question before considering the answer.

Our recommendation
Quizard's photo-first mobile workflow is a better match for this audience than CanvasNinja's Chrome workflow. Start there if paper worksheets and your phone are your normal study setup.
When another product is better
SmartSolve is another candidate when you also want browser highlighting on a laptop. We have not tested answer quality or cross-device continuity. The advertised accuracy percentage is not evidence of performance on your course.
Where CanvasNinja fits
CanvasNinja is our option for permitted practice questions inside Canvas and saved-answer workflows where supported. If your priority is lectures, phone photos or a whole course study set, choose the product built around that task. We cannot establish an accuracy advantage for our product from the evidence used here.
What to try today
- Photograph the complete question in good light.
- Check every symbol and unit against the original.
- Ask a follow-up about one step, then redo that step yourself.
Questions
Is a photo answer automatically reliable?
No. Both recognition and reasoning can fail. Keep the original question visible and verify the explanation with your course material.
Can I use these tools on assessed work?
Use them for study and practice allowed by your instructor. Check the rules for each assignment before using AI assistance.
